Visual Language – Week 5

October 28, 2008

We were introduced to Photoshop software in the Lab and we did practise using basic tools like Hue, Saturation and effects like charcoal, pencil and others.

Generally it is a good experience using the software because it makes us to understand the amount of work been done on a photograph especially in the Magazine design…

Negative Space Drawing

Negative Space Drawing

Negative Space: I use shadow to trace out the image i focus on. Drawing is not my thing, so i hope u find a place in your heart to forgive my drawing

Texture drawing

Texture drawing

Texture: I create the texture effect using different pastels colours by capturing images to my right, left, front, behind, up and down which makes it a total of six.

Firstly, i divide my page into six sides, I use my pastels to draw the things on whatever side am facing using the right colour to make the images looks real.

Pattern: I select a particular flower and i draw the natural pattern of the flower.

The monochrome painting
The monochrome painting

In the last class, i was thought the basics of painting and one of the things the lecturer thought was painting.

We started the class about the different level of color; primary, secondary and tertiary colors, a diagram was shown to make it more clearer. We did a class excercise of drawing different object in such a way that it cuts across each other.

Later on, we progress to the lab to do an excercise of painting which was really cool. First, we were given a copy that has different shapes and animal (abstract), a stencil pad. I decided to go for the skull diagram and i make different designs of the skull given attention to the samples she showed us during her explanation.

I started my painting with the monochrome effect but due to the time, i could not finish the painting which i am still going to apply other effects like: complimentary color,

Visual Language – Week 11

December 22, 2008

The site i choose is www.chelseafc.com

Talking of website, only few things could change someone’s mind. It could be the simplicity, typography, layout, colour and the conventional usability of the site.

Simplicity

Simplicity is the feature a good website must posses because the simplicity of the a website is the first impression given to a new visitor to the site. If a webpage is complicated, it gets boring to the user, especially the first time user of the site. A good web designer will always put the end-users into consideration when designning a website because they know that its all about them and what they would like.

Typography

For a professional website, there are types of fonts that are acceptable and a web designer considers that as a priority. Serif and San-Serif are considered to be the most appropriate typeface to use because its bold and officially accepted. Chelsea websites contain helvetica font as the prefered typeface and there is consistency in the use of the font in all the pages.

Layout

The layout of the pages is professional, a good use of tables, a proper positioning of flash video, pictures for slide and other stuff within the site. This website remains a masterpiece as it layout brings out the beauty of the site. The site contains lots of  information but the arrangement is well done. Proper positioning of important information

Color

The color combination is brilliant!

The good choice of blue and black though that’s chelsea’s brand anyway. I love the blend of the 2 colors which looks really cool and pleasing, also there no harsh color in use as every of the color used gives the website its uniqueness.

Visual Language – Week 10

lil-wayne-turns-evilToday we discuss about semiotics in the class and we were divided into groups and the objective is to identity symbols, people or anything that represents good (positive) or evil(negative). After that we proceeded into the lab where we had class test on semiotics.

I downloaded images from the server on which i have to decide what am going to use the image for (good or bad). i choose lil wayne’s picture and i edit and give the picture a different look which makes it look evil. Thanks to adobe photoshop.

Visual Language – week 1

September 29, 2008

We were introduced to the visual language course, also we were asked to write little lines about ourselves. We also did a bit of excercise which involves bringing what we wrote about ourselves into visual representation.

I have always hate drawing stuff because am not good at it, despite the fact that i am brilliant in Adobe Illustrator when it comes to drawing. Well i hope someday i will be able to cross that long bridge!

The day was really kool because the visual language seems to have interesting stuff in it so am really looking forward to starting it and on the long run i hope to get better….

For now, am curious…………….
